Parka!

I haven't had a chance to wear it yet because I'm always just walking between classes. I'll whip it out when it gets down to -30 or -40.

Snowshoeing

Hello! I went on a group outing today to go snowshoeing. We drove about 3 hours (110 miles) out of Fairbanks to go snowshoeing up to Eagle Ridge. It was a fairly warm day, only about 0 degrees, but with wind chill it felt like -25. It was beautiful though and I got some o.k. pictures. I know I'll sleep good tonight, I'm so tired.

Windy and cold.

Group shot! Excluding photographer.

Heading back to the car, which is that tiny dark boxy looking thing in the distance.

Polar Bear Jumpoff

Today was the Polar Bear Jumpoff Festival in Seward. It's similar to the Polar Bear Jump in Maryland only the people jump off a pier straight into the harbour. I'm not sure what temperature the water was but it's snowed on and off the past few days and there's often ice in the harbour. Unfortunately there were so many people that my dad and I weren't able to see the people jumping but we could see the emergency scuba divers in the water and the occasional splash of water. So since I wasn't able to get any pictures I've included a few I found through Google from a previous year.
My dad and I are driving up to Anchorage tomorrow afternoon and I fly up to Fairbanks on Monday. I move into my apartment on the 19th, orientation on the 20th, and then classes start the 21st!

I'm in Seward!

Hello! I got into Anchorage safe and sound the other night and am currently with my dad in Seward. I'm sitting in his office on my laptop while he does work (on a Saturday). Got a huge parka, boots good to -40 degrees, and snow pants up in Anchorage. I'll try to remember to take a picture of myself all decked out and post it on here.
It doesn't really start to get light in Seward until 10 or so. I woke up this morning and it was still pitch black out and I thought it might be 3 or 4 am. Checked my phone and it turned out it was already 8:30.
